Performance

Insertion loss of the part alone, in Type-B, and in dual Type-B up to 20 GHz. Plotted from instrument marker readings.

The Type-B circuit

Place Harmony at the point of load with two 47 µF, 10 V capacitors at VOUT. No small-value capacitors. Use the same three parts on every rail, and use two Type-B stages in series to reach 20 GHz.

  • Near a switcher, put pin 1 close to the power inductor and the feedback node.
  • Connect each GND pad to the plane with vias right at the pad. Stitch the ground layers generously.
  • Return the bulk capacitors to the ground plane, not to Harmony’s GND pad.

The rail enters at VIN, passes through the Harmony PI Filter, and continues to VOUT, where two 0805 capacitors connect it to ground. Rows of ground vias surround the filter. LT8622S switching noise, part 1: measuring ripple to 6 GHz

The same rail measures 4 mVp-p on a 1.5 GHz scope and 10 mVp-p on a 6 GHz Keysight Infiniium MXR.

LT8622S switching noise, part 2: the Silent Switcher becomes noise-free

Harmony takes the 2 MHz fundamental from about −59 dBm to −97 dBm (≈ 8.9 µVp-p) and removes microwave spurs.

Silent Switcher EMI, part 1: why filter placement matters

With Harmony placed next to the inductor of an LT8622S/LT8624S, part of the radiated energy bypasses the filter and couples into VOUT.
